FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is MaineJobs?
MaineJobs is Maine's newest and largest online job board, dedicated to being the number one resource for finding jobs and improving your career skills. MaineJobs features ads posted direct from employers, plus ads from the most recent edition from five of Maine's largest newspapers: the Portland Press Herald, the Maine Sunday Telegram, the Kennebec Journal, the (Waterville) Morning Sentinel and the Lewiston Sun Journal.

What makes MaineJobs different from other job sites in Maine?
Frankly, the job listings do. MaineJobs features job postings from across the state, giving you a broad geographic area in which to find suitable work, as well as a wide variety of job types from which to choose. And unlike some job sites that put up ads and let them run for months on end -- often long after the position has been filled -- MaineJobs' ads are refreshed daily to keep each ad as current as possible.

Does it cost anything to search for jobs on MaineJobs?
No. The site is completely free for job seekers.

How do I search for jobs on MaineJobs?
There are several ways to look for jobs on MaineJobs. The easiest is to just type a word or words into the yellow "search jobs" box on any page and click the "search" button. For example, entering "nurse" will return a list of all the job postings that contain the word "nurse". You can fine-tune your search by using the "more options" link, also in the yellow box.

I don't trust searches. Can I view ALL the ads in a job category?
Yes. Just click on the link under "Top Job Categories" in the blue box on the left of any page, or use the "other categories" link to see a list of all job categories, in click-able form.

Can MaineJobs alert me when a job I might like becomes available?
Yes! Just complete the form in the yellow "Job Alert" box on most pages and our system will automatically send you an email each day that a new job posting matching your criteria is added into MaineJobs. Job Alerts remain active for 90 days and are renewable.

How can I print jobs found on MaineJobs?
When viewing search results, click on the checkbox next to the jobs that interest you, then click the "save marked ads" button. A small window will appear containing the selected ads in a printer-friendly design. If you close that window to do more searches (and add more jobs listings to it), you can re-open the window by clicking the "view saved ads" link on the results pages.

How long will "saved" job listings remain saved?
Because we refresh the job listings daily, saved job listings are only available for the current day. If you need to save them longer, you can create a file on your computer that will contain your saved job listings. To do, view your saved job listings (if they aren't already showing) then choose "Save..." or "Save As..." from your browser's "File" menu. Enter a name for the new file and click the "Save" button. The resulting file will be available on your computer until you decide to delete it.

I saw a job listing the other day that interested me but now I can't find it. Can I search previous days' job listings?
When entering job postings, you can choose as many many job categories as you wish. Follow the instructions on that page to learn how to select more than one category.

How do I apply for the jobs I'm interested in?
That depends. Jobs posted directly by employers will typically allow you to apply either by emailing your information or by filling out an online job application. When viewing the details of a job listing, look for the "apply by email" link or the "visit employer's Web site" link, respectively. Jobs posted through the newspapers contain application information.
